Waves plugins are great, but if you're primarily interested in mastering, don't overlook other vendors like Izotope, Voxengo, or Blue Cat Audio. I have dozens of their plugins, but I end up cherry-picking what I need most of the time, and I make use of their frequent "singles" sales. Actually with Waves, the majority of their bundles seem to have weird omissions sometimes. I also agree with the person who said that Waves Gold isn't the best bundle for what you're looking for. (Again, some folks might consider that an advantage, because it forces you to trust your ears.)

The thing is, most of the Guitar Rig effects (and several of the standalone Komplete effects) have very minimal UIs, so you have to pretty much rely on just your ears to fix problems. I honestly think you could do some solid mixing and mastering just with Guitar Rig. Same thing with compressors - they all sound different.

Their Ren EQ will sound different from their HEQ which will sound different from the Massive Passive eq emulation in the Premium Tube series which will sound different from the Solid Series eq (which is an SSL emulation). As you say some of the Waves bundles do the same thing but they each do it differently and have a different sound to them. You're missing the point I was trying to make - each plugin vendor's stuff has a different sound. As soon as you realize that then your music will be what you want it to be.Īll this being said I make use of the Solid Series, Premium Tube Series and the Vintage Compressors as well as other effects from other programmers as the tune calls for it.

I have a compilation of the pieces from the musical Cats I'm doing and each tune calls for something different because of the energy and feel of the tune. At the intersection where todays cutting-edge audiophile technology meets 30 years of Sound Blaster processing experience, we set out to redefine the best of PC audio.Paying homage to our audio enhancement legacy and our never-waning thirst to explore the possibilities of audio, the Sound Blaster AE-9 is quite simply the best PCI-e sound card we have ever made. You want effects that will give you the sound you want and sometimes that means using different effects on different tracks.

No effect will give you a magic bullet so you sound like something Eddie Kramer did with Hendrix or Butch Vig did with Foo Fighters. It's not a case of what you think will make your music sound better as there's no such thing.
